Tofino is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, accessed via Highway 4 from Parksville, 42 kms north of Ucluelet and 130 kms west of Port Alberni. Driving time from Victoria is approximately 4 to 5 hours. The area boasts miles of sandy beaches to the south, islands of old-growth cedar, migrating grey whales, Hot Springs, sea lions, and a temperate climate.

With a year-round population of 1,170 (according to the 1996 census) that swells, according to RCMP figures to 22,000 people on some days during the summer months of July and August, Tofino comprises a mere 11.05 square miles of land on what is called the Esowista Peninsula. Bordered on the South by its boundary with Pacific National Park Reserve and on its other three sides by the Pacific Ocean, Tofino is as far west as you can drive by car or bus and is still the only paved road to the open Pacific Ocean in Canada. This end of the road distinction has earned Tofino the official terminus of the Trans-Canada Highway.

On the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada lies the Pacific rim and Long Beach. The best way to enjoy Long Beach is to hike the beaches, headlands and woodland trails. A semi-serviced and primitive campground is available. Beach resorts can also be found near the town of Tofino. Much of the area is included in the Pacific Rim National Park. The times I have visited there have always been a wondeful experience. I always hated to leave and return to the hustle, bustle of city life. Long Beach, an 11 - kilometer stretch of white sand, is famous around the world. Long Beach is between Ucluelet and Tofino. I found it to be the ultimate relaxation place, the air is so fresh you feel incredibly healthy and at peace.
